Bone Marrow/Organ Donor Leave

The availability of donors can mean the difference between life and death for the many citizens of Hawai`i in need of bone marrow or organ donations each year. As such, in 2005, House Bill 1318, H.D. 1, S.D.1 was enacted (Act 176, SLH 2005), which authorizes the State to implement a bone marrow/organ donor leave program.

Under the program, an employee can receive up to seven (7) days of paid leave each calendar year to serve as a bone marrow donor, and up to thirty (30) days of paid leave each calendar year to serve as a living organ donor.
